Company selection (Case Study)
Please turn in the company and issue that you are doing your case study on. Also discuss any preliminary information you have, direction you are going, literature cites, etc. This should be at least 1/2 page long so that I can get a good idea of where you are going with your case study and can give you direction to help you avoid going down the wrong path.

Students will select a company with some type of management problem to focus their case study on. The case study will be approximately 1500 words in length (However, grade is assigned on quality rather than length) and must include proper citations. APA style is required. Please note due dates for topic selection, rough draft and final draft. There is a template posted above. PLEASE USE THE TEMPLATE. The rubric used to grade this assignment is posted above as well.

Introduction
A basic Introduction/history of the company (one paragraph at most – a short summary) that you are researching.
Practice a persuasive tone. Hook your reader.
What questions do you attempt to answer in your research?
Introduce a thesis statement, question, or decision that needs to be made.
Company Issue and Problem Statement
Describe and define the problem facing the company. This should relate to the thesis statement or question that you proposed in the introduction
What is the current situation?
What led up to this problem?
What are the ramifications if the problem is or is not solved?
WHAT IS THE QUESTION THE COMPANY IS FACING OR THE DECISION THAT NEEDS TO BE MADE?
You need an extremely clear statement of the problem you are looking at. For example, don’t tell me “the company is losing sales.” First, that would be Marketing, not Management. Second that is not the problem, that is the result. They might be losing sales for some Management issue, such as poor leadership. If so, then Leadership is the Core issue, not the sales. DO NOT make this a Marketing paper. If you focus on Marketing topics, then you will get an extremely poor grade.
Literature Review
The literature review will discuss what academic literature has to say about the problem your company is dealing with. For example, if your company has issues with leadership, you might discuss the different types of leadership that literature identifies. What they are, what causes them, what are the positive and/or negative consequences of them, etc. This section should have at least 4-5 academic journal references. You should frame this literature discussion in such a way that it will relate to the discussion section below. This section and the discussion section should be the majority of the case study.
Discussion/Alternatives
Begin the discussion by restating or emphasizing your original research question or thesis statement.
Discuss various alternative solutions to the issue, the probable impact, both positive and negative, of each one and support your arguments with the literature you have researched.
Conclusion
In conclusion, summarize the most important findings and your stated analytical opinion.
What should the company do and why (which alternative solution of yours should they implement?) Support your decision.
Did the company do something to fix it, and did it work, why or why not?

References
List all of your references here. There should be a minimum of 6 references for this case study. At least 3 references need to come from academic journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Management, Personnel Psychology, Journal of Applied Psychology, The Journal of Human Resources, Administrative Science Quarterly, etc.

6 — A 6 paper commands attention because of its insightful development and
mature style. It presents a cogent analysis of or response to the prompt,
elaborating that response with well-chosen examples and persuasive reasoning.
The 6 paper shows that its writer can usually choose words aptly, use
sophisticated sentences effectively, and observe the conventions of written English.
5 — A 5 paper is clearly competent. It presents a thoughtful analysis of or response
to the prompt, elaborating that response with appropriate examples and sensible
reasoning. A 5 paper typically has a less fluent and complex style than a 6, but
does show that its writer can usually choose words accurately, vary sentences
effectively, and observe the conventions of written English.
4 — A 4 paper is satisfactory, sometimes marginally so. It presents an adequate
analysis of or response to the prompt, elaborating that response with sufficient
examples and acceptable reasoning. Just as these examples and this reasoning will
ordinarily be less developed than those in 5 papers, so will the 4 paper’s style be
less effective. Nevertheless, a 4 paper shows that its writer can usually choose
words of sufficient precision, control sentences of reasonable variety, and observe
the conventions of written English.
3 — A 3 paper is unsatisfactory in one or more of the following ways. It may
analyze or respond to the prompt illogically; it may lack coherent structure or
elaboration with examples; it may reflect an incomplete understanding of the
prompt or the topic. Its prose is usually characterized by at least one of the
following characteristics: frequently imprecise word choice; little sentence variety;
occasional major errors in grammar and usage, or frequent minor errors.
2 — A 2 paper shows serious weaknesses, ordinarily of several kinds. It frequently
presents a simplistic, inappropriate, or incoherent analysis of or response to the
prompt, one that may suggest some significant misunderstanding of the prompt or
the topic. Its prose is usually characterized by at least one of the following:
simplistic or inaccurate word choice; monotonous or fragmented sentence
structure; many repeated errors in grammar and usage.
1 — A 1 paper suggests severe difficulties in reading and writing conventional
English. It may disregard the topic’s demands, or it may lack any appropriate
pattern of structure or development. It may be inappropriately brief. It often has a
pervasive pattern of errors in word choice, sentence structure, grammar, and
usage.
