Outline for Writing Your Three Formal Case Analyses
The framework for these case analyses are the Psychosocial Systems Model developed by Cohen and Fink and the organizational theories discussed in Borkowski’s book.
The case should be written in a word document, with one-inch margins all around. It should be done with a 12 font and 1.5 spacing. It should be written professionally using good grammar and good sentence structure and with no mis-spelling. Use appropriate referencing (Ex. APA style) when citing sources outside the textbook.
Introduce the substance of the case. This is a brief discussion describing the case and introducing the nature of the business and the main characters. It is not a synopsis of the case, beginning to end.
This should take no more than one half of a page.
This section should introduce all the leadership/management people in the case. It should discuss their titles and roles in the organization. It should discuss their leadership styles and their roles in creating or solving the problem in the case. You should use the leadership theories we have discussed up to this point in the course to identify each managers strengths and weaknesses.
This should take between one half and three quarters of a page to complete.
This section examines the contextual factors, as described in the Psychosocial Systems Model, as they impact the behavior of the individuals in the organization (both leadership/management and rank and file workers). These elements should be discussed in terms of how they impact the work (or the problem) of the organization.
This should take between one half to one page to complete.
This is what the organization is attempting to do. This should be framed in terms of specific duties, levels of quality and interaction with fellow workers.
This should take about one half a page to complete.
Explain what is actually happening in the case in reference to the Required System. Use the theories we have discussed up to this point in the course to clarify the workers behavior (theories in leadership, communication, motivation, etc.).
Again, one half to one page to accomplish.
Based on your description of the Required System and the Emergent System, explain the gap in productivity, efficiency and goal achievement.
Should take no more than a few sentences to articulate.
Your recommendations should be written in a step-by-step process, that has measurable short-term and long-term goals and time-frames for completion. Recommendations should be realistic, doable and fall within the typical responsibilities of the management group as described in the case.
This should take one half to one page to complete.
At this point, you should answer any questions that may be found at the end of the case.
