Informative speech outline

Informative SpeechIn todays world, it is important to be aware of policies and laws that impact our daily lives. For this assignment, you will pick a policy/ proposition/ law that impacts you as well as your audience in some way. You may want to look at local policies, state policies, or national policies. This assignment asks you to explore a policy in more depth in the format of a informative speech. Incorporating concepts from the textbook about informative speaking, you will inform the class about a topic regarding a policy/ proposition/ law. At least five academic sources are required. Presentation aids are required. You are required to record this speech and do a self-reflection based off of the recording of this speech. You will be graded for the delivery of your speech (60 points) and for the content and presentation aids of your speech (40 points). It is an 4-5 minute speech, with 2-3 main points. The idea of informing the class about a law/ policy/ proposition is a big project. You will have to narrow your topic since you only have 4-5 minutes to present. In that time frame, you cannot tell us everything about the topic you choose, so you will have to pick a few aspects of the topic (history, impact on society, politicians involved, counter argument/barriers) The purpose of this speech is to educate and inform the class about a policy/ proposition/ law and not to judge/evaluate the topic you choose (save this for the persuasive speech). Have fun with the assignment; it is a great learning opportunity. Think of this assignment as if you were the teacher. In this presentation, you will learn the following Student Learning Objectives:1. Choose and narrow a topic appropriately for this audience.2. Generate a well-reasoned argument for this occasion.3. Assess the strength of relative supporting evidence.4. Create content formatted to an approved organizational pattern appropriate to time and purpose.5. To demonstrate effective vocal variety and nonverbal communication (gestures and movement) skills.6. To create a connection with the audience through competent eye contact.7. To demonstrate confidence and energy throughout the presentation.8. To utilize appropriate language for the purpose and audience.9. To effectively adapt to various public speaking situations and circumstances.10. To gain public speaking experience with effective use of presentation aids.11. To learn about a new law/ policy/ proposition, and become more aware of local, state, and national politics. The rubric of how you will be evaluated in your speech is also on Canvas. INFORMATIVE SPEECHTime Limit: Possible Points: 100 Purpose:1. The goal of this speech is to partner with another student and choose policy/ law/ proposition. Think of this as an informative speech where you and your partner will define/describe/explain the topic that you choose. 2. You will select a topic you are knowledgeable and passionate about. The goal is to increase the audience’s knowledge or understanding of your topic, so you should consider the best way to achieve your goal. You are essentially teaching a classroom-style 8-10 minute crash-course, or providing a training, on the topic you choose. You must have between 3-5 main points. General Information:1. Things to consider when selecting a topic:Pick a topic that you are both interested in learning more about or are passionate about!Select main points that are appropriate given the length of the speech.The topic should be sensitive to the demographics of the audience based on gender, race, ethnicity, culture, age, sex, etc.3. You are allowed to use 1 note card each (3×5) (front and back) for this speech. Speech Requirements:1. Within your speech, you must use examples and facts. 2. You must use at least 1 expert quotation and at least 1 statistic, and they must be introduced with a verbal footnote.3. Minimum of 5 references must be cited in the speech. The sources can be: websites, magazines, academic /science journals, books (online and paper/hard back), and newspapers. You cannot use Wikipedia or dictionary.com as 1 of your sources. 4. You must site 5 of your references in the speech. You can do this by saying: “According to Fisher, ‘1 out of 3 people who…”. These are called verbal footnotes. 5. A presentation aid must be utilized at an appropriate time during the speech. A presentation aid may include graphs, pictures, props, models, charts, and/or objects. PowerPoint can be used, but it should be used sparingly. You can show a video, but it cannot be longer than 60 seconds.6. You should dress professionally. Your clothes should not distract from your presentation.7. Obviously, I will grade the strength of your argument as well as how you deliver your speech.
