From Customer: I wrote some of this already but I am completely stuck. Please help! Thank You! RUBRIC – ESSAY TEST 3: 2020 BATTLEGROUND STATE PREDICTIONS
Type your name and class section (Example: M. Smith – MW 9:30) at the top of your paper.
1300 WORD MINIMUM. This amounts to 4 pages at 12- point font, which enables at least one good paragraph for each of the 8 states required.
12 pt. font.
Double-spaced with only 1 return in between paragraphs.
1 – inch margins on all sides.
Write in 3rd person: No “I” or “you”. Instead, say: “Nevada will go blue in the 2020 Presidential Election”, or “Nevada will go Democratic”, for example. And then, “The reasons why Nevada will go Democratic are: 1, 2, and 3”. Then, go back for each of the reasons and explain why that will happen and what indicators show that is possible/probable.
Upload your essay in the assignment box entitled Test/Essay 3 under the Assessment tab in your GaView class.
Upload your essay in a WORD DOC by 11:30 pm, Monday, Nov. 2nd or points will be deducted for being late. IF you cannot upload by that time, late papers may be uploaded until 8 am Tuesday, Nov. 3rd, and will have points deducted for being late but will be accepted.
NO PAPERS WILL BE ACCEPTED AT ALL AFTER 8 AM, TUESDAY, NOV. 3RD.
Parenthetical citation is required for all sources used, whether direct quotations or paraphrased material. I expect you to use sources in addition to your book. Some sources have been placed on GaView under “Charts” module for weeks now, for you to use and others are possible.
Guide and Examples from APSA website:
A parenthetical citation is set off at the end of a sentence by parentheses. The usual format, which refers to the work and the overall ideas of the work as a whole, requires only the last name of the author(s), editor(s), or translator(s) and the year of publication (n.d. if there is no date, forthcoming if it is forthcoming). The terms ed. or eds. and trans., which are abbreviated in the reference list, are omitted from parenthetical citations. No comma should be placed between the last name and the year of publication.
(Arena 2014) (Durant n.d.)
Page or chapter numbers must be included for quotes, and should be included to point to specific data sets, ideas, or to avoid ambiguity. The numbers should point to a specifically contextual page or range of pages. The page numbers can be cited as either inclusive or nonconsecutive page numbers. No comma should be placed between the last name and the year of publication, but a comma should be placed after the year before page or chapter numbers.
(Jentleson 2015, 12–14) (Fraser 1989, 304, 308)
With two or three authors, cite all names each time (15.27). Use and, not an ampersand (&).
(Dodd and Oppenheimer 1977) (Roberts, Smith, and Haptonstahl 2016)
When four or more authors are cited, et al. (in roman type) should follow the first author’s name, even in the first reference, unless the author is in multiple references where the et al. would not be the same, in which case use the first and second author’s last names before et al. (and so on) or a shortened title in quotes preceded by a comma (15.29).
(Angel et al. 1986)
When multiple sources are cited together, they are included in the same parentheses, but separated by semicolons. They should be alphabetized.
(Hochschild 2015; Jentleson 2015) (Hauck 2000; Hauck and Vogelsong 2005; Hauck, Smith, and Vogelsong 2010; Jordan et al. 1999, 56–58; Walthall 2012)
Citations of multiple sources by the same author, but published in different years, can omit the name with the second source and beyond.
(Barbarosa 1973; 1978) (Barbarosa 1973, 18; 1978, 32)
If two or more sources are published by the same author in the same year, add lowercase letters to the publication year. To determine how to label the sources with the letters, alphabetize them by title (15.20).
(Frankly 1957a, 1957b)
List of References is required, in APSA style. (See footnotes in the back of Morone’s By the People and the APSA Style page: https://connect.apsanet.org/stylemanual/references/ to answer questions about how to do this.
States to be addressed:
FOR EACH OF THE STATES ABOVE:
Predict which way that state will vote in your 1st sentence of the paragraph for that state.
You may not say it could go either way. You must make a prediction.
After you have made the prediction, in the next sentence briefly set out the 3 POLS reasons (by descriptive name only in this sentence (Example: voter history in that state).
Then, and most importantly, explain the reasoning that supports the position you have taken for each of the 3 reasons you gave. You may need to use additional paragraphs for some of the explanations. Explain each fully. Cite your sources!
Summarize your essay after you have addressed each of the 8 states by using a concluding paragraph to say who will win the presidency/electoral college vote based on the predictions made. You can put your personal opinions here and may use 1st person in this paragraph only.
Go back and write a brief introductory paragraph for your essay at the beginning.
