At the end of this module you will submit an annotated bibliography (AB) using APA style documentation. The AB will have at least 12 sources of information from research you’ve done into your guiding question from Assignment 1. All of the sources should be credible, and at least 7 of the sources should come from a scholarly database/journal/publication (use DSC library access, G.Scholar and/or the DOAJ). It is okay to re-use the three sources you gathered for Assignment 1, if you’d like to. As you draft this document, please revisit the resources provided in this module’s learning activities, such as the links to help on APA style. Lastly, here is that same student example of an annotated bibliography from the learning activity in this module.
I’m looking for an “evaluative” annotated bibliography.
For each annotation, you’ll start by offering a summary of the key information you found useful in the source.
Then comment on how this source adds to your gathering of topic knowledge — does the source offer definitions, history, cases, statistics, data, competing theories, etc.? You should talk about how it relates to (or complicates) other sources in your AB.
Finally, evaluate the credibility and usefulness of the source, and perhaps what else it prompts you to investigate next. Or, what questions are answered and what questions does it raise?
Keep each annotation between 200-300 words.
Do not simply copy the “Abstract” from the front of the academic source. Do not take a summary somebody else wrote! Beyond being unethical, it won’t allow you to fully comprehend your topic. You need to do the work of reading the whole source, digesting it, and then writing up from your own perspective the key parts you wish to take away from the source.
Document Design – Use a standard, readable font, 10-12 point. Single space your lines. No need for a header or page numbers, or even your name. At the very top of page one, in the center, write: Annotated Bibliography. Then press enter and move back to the left margin to begin with your first source.
Start each AB item by writing the source info into an APA style reference page entry. Below the APA style entry, type your annotation. The entire annotation should be indented 1/2 inch from the left, so that it hangs underneath the APA info up top. Here is an example for the layout of an AB entry.
