Annotated Bibliography for a Research Paper
Write an annotated bibliography about a short story.
An annotated bibliography is a list of secondary sources that can be used for a research paper. This means you are creating a list of articles or books that can be used as part of your research paper. In a college class, these research sources are not just general Google searches. You are writing as a scholar so you need scholarly sources that come from the college library. You may also use Google Scholar or websites that end in .edu–but the .edu must not be student work such as published blogs or assignments. (Note, do not use sources ending in .gov, .org, or especially .com. Using any of these will cause you to fail the assignment.)
The topic of the secondary sources may be the story, the author, the theme, or other ideas related to the claim of the paper. (Note: it does not have to just be about the story, itself, though you can certainly use those if you find some. Be creative to find articles or books related to the topic.)
Bottom line: An annotated bibliography means that you have taken notes (“annotated”) on a list of books or articles (“bibliography”). To do this, list the sources like a works cited page–in MLA 8 format–but in between each source, provide a one-paragraph summary of the source. This summary and list will help you write your research paper due next week. See the example below.

Steps to Complete the Assignment
Review the the prompt below.
Read the assigned story three times like you did for the short story essay. Prep the same way.
Read for plot and connection to prompt.
Read again to take notes on lines dealing with the prompt. Formulate a thesis and topics of discussion.
Read again to verify your claim and evidence.
Find secondary (research) sources related to your topic.
Read each source and write a summary of it, noting parts that relate to your claim for the research paper.
Write each bibliography source (the MLA 8 citation) and insert the summaries as seen in the example document. (Yes, you may single space this assignment.)
Put the whole document in MLA 8 format (except for double spacing).
Submit the assignment by the due date.
Use six sources related to the claim of your paper.
List all six sources in MLA 8 format.
Include a 200-300 word summary of each source inserted after the source listing.
Use MLA 8 format for the whole document (except for double spacing).
Include only scholarly sources from the library, Google Scholar, or .edu websites (excluding student-produced work or blogs). Using one of more sources from any other type of material will result in a failing grade for the assignment.
Use MLA 8 format for the entire document (except for double spacing).
