The purpose of this project is to apply and adapt class concepts and frameworks to understanding the strengths and weaknesses of a specific planned organizational change (your group identifies what organization you will work with).  You will need to identify a recent change situation (occurred in the last 12 months) where you can obtain information to answer a number of questions

Remember – you need to apply the concepts covered in this course (from student slides, classes, readings, videos, cases, etc) to the change that has occurred within the organization you are working with.

 

The project is broken down into three (3) parts:

  1. Each group will prepare a one-page proposal due by 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 22, 2020 and will be submitted via Dropbox. It will identify the company you will work with, the change they are going/have gone through, and will identify the group members (names and ID numbers).
  2. Each group will prepare a written report, based on interviews/research of the organization you have selected and the specific change you have identified. Group reports will not exceed 12 pages (not including title page, table of contents page, and a references page).  Group reports will be due by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, and will be submitted via Dropbox.
  3. Each group member will also submit a two page individual evaluation, due by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, and will be submitted via Dropbox.

 

 

 

Part 1:  One-Page Proposal (5% of Final Grade)

Due by 11:59 pm on Thursday, October 22, 2020 and submitted via Dropbox

As part of the one-page proposal, identify:

  • the company you will work with and the name and position of your contact(s) at the organization
  • the change they are going/have gone through – what stage is it at or how successfully was the change implemented, and
  • identify your team members (names and ID numbers).

 

 

Part 2:  A 12 page (maximum) written report (15% of final grade)

Written reports are due by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, and will be submitted via Dropbox.

Report formatting: 

  • Font should be professional (Arial, Calibri, Times New Roman or similar) 12 point size.
  • Minimum word counts must be met.
  • Title page with company name and names of all team members/ID numbers.

 

 

As part of the written report, include the following components:

 

Introduction:  2 marks total

  • 100 words minimum
  • Describe the history of the organization you have selected(1 mark)
  • Describe the change that the organization has undertaken over the past 12 months that you will focus on in this assignment. (1 marks)

 

Change Management – 7 marks total

  • 200 words minimum
  • Describe the cause for change within the organization.(2 marks)
  • Describe gaps that were identified and by whom? Identify who sponsored the change initiative and why they supported the change.(2 marks)
  • Analyze the internal and external challenges the organization faced. (3 marks)

 

Assisting Individual and Teams through Changes – 6 marks total

  • 200 words minimum
  • Discuss the resistance to change they experienced.(2 marks)
  • Describe how they overcame resistance from their employees.(2 marks)
  • Describe the vision and objectives of the change.(2 marks)

 

Organizational Change– 6 marks total

  • 200 words minimum
  • Identify who was involved in the change.(1 mark)
  • Describe the role(s) each played in the change. (2 marks)
  • Identify who was impacted by the change.(1 mark)
  • Describe how they were impacted by the change.(2 marks)

 

Risk Assessment– 5 marks total

  • 200 words minimum
  • Describe the type of Risk Assessment completed by the organization.(2 marks)
  • Analyze how risk was minimized.(3 marks)

 

Implementation– 6 marks total

  • 200 words minimum
  • Identify the estimated cost of implementing the change. (1 mark)
  • Describe the supports put in place to help employees to adapt to the change.(2 marks)
  • Analyze factors that helped the organization to achieve a successful change initiative.(3 marks)

 

Leading Change – 6 marks total

  • 150 words minimum
  • Describe the change process used by the organization. Include a diagram.(3 marks)
  • Discuss how the leader “coached” their staff through the change initiative. (3 marks)

 

Communication of Strategy – 5 marks total

  • 200 words minimum
  • Describe how the vision for the change was communicated to employees. (2 marks)
  • Analyze the effectiveness of each communication method in supporting the change initiative. (3 marks)

Ongoing Monitoring and Review of Change – 6 marks total

  • 150 words minimum
  • Describe the process the organization used to assess the results of the change. (2 marks)
  • Discuss how the organization is reinforcing the change, to ensure that changes are sustained and deliver the expected results. (2 marks)
  • Discuss recommendations your team would make to (re)design or implement the change initiative more effectively. (2 marks)

 

Summary – 1 marks total

  • 50 words minimum

 

Part 2 of the project is marked out of 50 and converted to a grade out of 15.

 

 

Part 3:  Individual Report (10% of Final Grade)

Due by 11:59 pm on Tuesday, November 17, 2020, and submitted via Dropbox.

Individual Project Reflection – 10 marks total

This is an individual submission.  It does not have to be shared with your team.

  • 400 words minimum
  • Identify which areas of the project you contributed to including where you found information/resources (provide citations where required). (2 marks)
  • Explain three (3) ways your group did well in functioning as a team? (3marks)
  • Discuss problems your group had interacting as a team? (2 marks)
  • What is a specific action that would help the team function and interact even better next time? (2 marks)
  • What changes would you recommend for the next time this project is used as part of this course? (1 mark)
