Synthesize ideas about the science of nursing
Purpose of the paper:
This paper allows the student to synthesize ideas about the science of nursing and demonstrate the utility of one nursing theory or model as it applies to the current practice of the student as an RN and future practice as an RN with a graduate degree in nursing.
· Theorist Jean Watson and Nursing – The Philosophy and Science of Caring – not other theories from Jean Watson. Can only use Nursing – The Philosophy and Science of Caring written in 1979 with inclusion of the carative factors
The overarching question for the paper is:
What role does theory serve for the RN with a graduate degree in nursing?
Guidelines
Provide Abstract
1.Introduction to paper and theorist (short) using the ORIGINAL source from theorist from 1979.
2. Specifically describe the theory or model, including concepts, worldview, and diagrams of the model/theory.
3.Using Fawcett criteria to evaluate the theory, describe how the theory does or does not meet the evaluation criteria.
4. In detail discuss how the theory/model does or does not incorporate the 4
nursing concepts (patient, nurse, health, and environment)
and Carper’s Four Ways of Knowing of personal knowing, empirical knowing, ethical knowing, and aesthetic knowing.
5. In detail discuss how you use the theory/model in your current professional practice, and how you plan to use it in your future professional practice as an RN with a graduate degree in nursing.
6. Locate one current (within 5 years) journal article using the theory that guides the research in the article discuss the article and how the theory-guided the research.
7. How do you see this theory/model guiding or not guiding your future practice as an RN with a graduate degree in nursing-be specific in your response.
8.Conclusions: Discuss how a theoretical base will assist you in making the transition from an RN to an RN with a graduate degree in nursing.
