Why Does Credible Authority Matter in the Research Process?

Working from the two information sources on your research question that you formulated in our discussion this week, continue your research with two more additional references that you believe have scholarly credibility. Drawing on the skills you have cultivated from our discussion board and from the interactive lecture, especially the section on how to evaluate authority and why it is important, address the following:

Cite the source in correct APA format and summarize the main ideas or claims of each reference.
Apply the criteria for evaluating credibility / authority (author, accuracy, currency, relevance, audience, and purpose) discussed in this module to your additional examples.
More specifically determining the viability and credibility of each example, look closely at the markers we have studied this week. What is the expertise of each author? What are their qualifications on the topic?
Briefly compare and contrast the two sources according to their respective authority. How does the information compare? Is one source more credible than the other?
What further questions do you have? What have you learned? Has your research question become more focused? How has it changed?
Your paper should be 3-4 pages in length (not counting title and reference page).

The authors identify the need for qualitative data collection. Patients are an essential source for pulling such data on operational efficiencies. Often, the patient experience extended wait times, lack of coordination in care, and poor customer service. To improve operation efficiency, quality of care, and satisfaction measures, a process to monitor performance measures must be in place. Critical areas of measurement are admissions, treatment, and discharge. One of the best times to obtain such data will be during the discharge process in patient satisfaction surveys and feedback.

Success is the desired outcome of all organizations; however, that just does not come without the appropriate processes. A critical element for operational success is strategic planning. All companies should have their desired vision statement, which provides direction, but a guiding tool such as a map is needed. The strategic plan gives the vision statement, focus points, and purpose by assessing where you want where you are going or want to go as the essential points for building long-term goals. Having an action plan lays out the desired path for organizational success.

In professional organizations, often, the focus remains on the client (patient). In the healthcare setting, patient surveys have become a frequent practice. Physician offices now even text you a link to complete a survey from your phone or post an online review about services received. However, in the healthcare setting, the patient’s voices are not the only voices of importance. When does the organization survey staff? The staff have first-hand insight into day-to-day operations and can bring light to daily operational deficiencies; they may even have recommendations to improve those deficiencies. It would be good to poll staff, but when surveying them, do not just ask problems and also recommend solutions. Implementing changes can serve two-fold, they see administration listed to them, and their ideas improved the workplace. That increases their feeling of worth and boosts morale.
